My husband installed one of the dog dividers with metal bars, but then he screwed a sheet of plexiglass to the bars. Worked like a charm!

Wow! Thank you all so much!!! As important as the advice, was knowing we aren't alone with this issue. It feels so lonely when my other friends/family with kids on the spectrum never have to deal with this type of behavior. It really feels like we are the only ones fighting a war every day with his physical behavior issues. Thank you again for the advice!

also, make sure you have child safety locks. My car doesn't and my son started opening the car door and threatening to jump out while we were moving during his outbursts.

This worked for us for a long time with the kids behavior issues. Go online and look up inserts for cars for dogs to travel.. Ours was simple with metal like bars with rubber inserts to adjust to the back of the car and the seats...good luck.

I wasn't able to use the dog separator because my son would hurt himself on it. So I found the organization that installs dividers in police cars and had them install one in my car. It was more expensive but it was safer and sturdier. The organization that does this in my city also sells a lot of other saftety equipment. But to save time, I would just call your police department and ask them to give you the name of the company that installs the dividers in their cars.
