He picks, he rages, he kicks, bites, hits. You name it he has probably tried that form of destruction and injury to things and others.
My question, though, deals with preventing the property damage. How can I repair the walls with something he can't kick through? Can I put plywood on the wall and paint it? Would paneling be harder to kick through? Too expensive, harder to repair if it is damaged?

I'm surprised that your question is not how to prevent the behaviour instead. No disrespect but that's where i would start.
Its nice to have people who share the same problems. We should call ourselves the "Hole in the Wall" gang after Butch Cassidy;-)
I bought some cheap 3/16ths panels and sprayed the back side with canned texture to match the sheetrock. Then I covered large areas over the holes using panel glue (to avoid nail holes) and painted unbroken sheetrock and panel together to match. Even very thin panels are difficult to break because they are not brittle like sheetrock.
Good luck to all of you out there in the "Hole in the Wall gang" :-)
Please accept my apology. I didn't at all mean that how it came out. That was rude and i sincerely apologize. Good luck.
Free is a good way to go but make sure it's sturdy. We use This End Up for furniture as it is very durable. As far as the walls we have plywood wall in some rooms and in other rooms we used slats covered in drywall then covered in paneling. So far my son has not been able to destroy it but my son is much younger than yours so not sure if it will work for you.
He has patched more than 20 holes, I think. He has even had to take money out of his budget to pay for the supplies. I thought for sure that would work! But he still puts more holes in the wall.
I guess that is why I jumped straight to the question of how to make the walls more durable!
