Hey yall.. I have a 7 year old daughter with HF ASD. She is verbal, walks, potty trained, etc. But she has a temper and doesn't do good at all with change. I've had idk how many jobs in the past few years but I am unable to keep them due to daisy. The jobs won't work with me or work around her needs. I can't keep a babysitter for longer than a day. I can't even count how many babysitters I have been through. The ones with experience want more than I can make a week. The only way I can get… read more

You can list yourself available for employment for babysitting or run errands for people such as picking up dry cleaning or doing simple tasks through www.care.com I use it for most of my needs because I can find tutors, house keepers and whole lot of other stuff too including agencies. That might be able to let you pick up quick simple jobs here and there. Another thing I can suggest is maybe listing yourself for as many districts as you are willing to travel for a substitute teacher. Each district will have several schools that you SUB at. You answer your phone when you w ant to work or ignore it when you can't. Many of the jobs can also be applied for online through their websites. I also suggest this because you can easily work when you child is having a GOOD day and chose not to work when your child is having a bad day. A test or exam may be required for subbing but you do not need to be a certified teacher to do it.
There also programs that will train you if you do not have the required education and then employ you. You can also look into higher paying jobs based on your education level. Although I do not recommend the following job to a single parent, this is ONLY an example of what I mean: A flight attendant can make from almost 3K monthly up to 16K monthly with experience and all thats required is a high school diploma and 3 to 8 weeks of training depending on the airline. Explore all jobs according to level of education and then filter out jobs by what other needs you have. You can also look through your local unemployment office for work and filter through their list too.
I would look into the sub teaching jobs because you can do them as you see the need or how you see fit around your child's behaviour. If a school likes you, they might even offer full on subbing full time or even longer terms for when teachers take vacations. You can also look into furthering your education if you do not have a degree online with a nationally accredited online college. They offer financial aid and all kinds of goodies to persons with no or low income. The schooling can be done at home through a computer around your child's schedule. There is also a handful of TUITION FREE colleges that are nationally accredited online that also accept financial aid, pell grants, and even tell you where to get scholarships from locally, through their school or through your state. It would be rough for a while but you can apply for state or government aid while you do it and be home while your daughter learns to cope with her emotions & actions through therapy. I wish you good luck & send you internet hugs! :-)
Welcome to the website! I can suggest the following:
You can check into: www.care.com and search by your own zip code in your area for babysitters. They are available of all budget sizes, experience and some do excellent with kids who have special needs. For assistance certain states if you are low income offer a lot of things such as low income housing, section 8 housing and hud housing too for rent controlled apts based on income. Here is their website: http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD you can get low income utilities too. Hud has a waiting list so make sure you add yourself to the list if you need a place to live. Some hud homes only charge based on your income. I have a friend with 4 kids that subs for schools and she only pays 130.00 monthly for rent leaving extra cash available should she need a sitter.
The welfare office depending on state can offer assistance vouchers for day care. Make sure you contact them for help to see if maybe they can help with baby-sitting fees. You even get assistance with food too. Certain community groups offer assistance so be sure to check your local area. Also check your church groups. Many of them have lots of help for people who need it. If you have a relative thats understanding with a flexible schedule maybe you can try asking them for a bit of help too for day care.
Unfortunately jobs demand workers. Being out of work is a very SAD thing because many jobs just will not work around anyone's children's schedule. I don't know what to suggest for that. I depended on hired help to raise my child. For a while there I even had my child in boarding school.
Click up on the top of this web page where it says provider directory. Search there or at your medical insurance website for providers if she isn't currently getting THERAPY. Therapy helped my child with anger & tantrums and taught her better ways to control your anger and better ways to address herself properly in social situations by using her words and not getting upset instead. I found it effective for my situation.
You can google WFH jobs and hundreds of websites will pop up such as this example below: http://www.indeed.com/q-Wfh-jobs.html I have never tried it myself because I have never needed too so I can't inform too much on that topic. I have also heard of people who do "mystery shopping". You might be able to find out some information of that too online if you google.com it.
You are welcome @A MyAutismTeam Member you never know what you will find!! If you go that route, just pick something that you are passionate about, make sure to do proper research though. To many people rely on Google and online reviews. The best information is from the rep, customers and from the Direct Selling Global List. You can see the last two years who has grown, who has dropped, etc. And a company HAS to meet strict standards and practices to be on that list. If you need any ideas, I'll be happy to point you in the right direction. Either way it sounds like you got a ton of great ideas on here! :D Best of luck, Brightest Blessings!
Just curious...have you considered a direct sells company like Mary Kay (I'm not with Mary Kay, I just used it cause everyone knows the name. lol I'm actual in that industry but in travel. :D ) or something to the like? I know it's not always the most...ideal thing, but with that you can work when you are able to work, you get tax write offs and you can work it around her and her needs. That's what I do and yes there are some very legit companies out there, that have to meet a very strict set of standards. Maybe it's an idea? Just tossing that out.
may be try working from home its more flexible. House cleaning, child or elder care
