Help Ex Wont Give My Son His Meds.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Help my ex wont give my son his meds on the weekends or vacation time he has him. so my son goes days without it and comes home more upset and violent with his sisters and me. I have try to talk to his father about making sure that he gets it but got told that he can give it to himself which the doctor says no because of where he is on the spectrum. I have tired talking to DFCS where I live and got told they cant do anything because I have the child most of the time. What else can I do because… read more

It is a form of negligence called medical negligence, I believe, for a parent to not give meds. I’m shocked that DCFS won’t do anything! CPS? My ex is the same but my child is only on meds when she is… read more

Has Bloodwork Ever Revealed Anything Helpful In Treating Your Child's Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

And if so what sort of tests should i be requesting. Both my SPD and HFA 3.5yr old twin daughters have a very sensitive immune system, seemingly chronic viral activity from time to time, allergies ( been tested for everything) lots of food/environmental sensitivities and intolerances ( milk, soy, corn) and GI symptoms. I would really like to know if there is more going on beyond " Oh it's just Autism." But don't know where to start. Are there specific immune function tests, lyme, parasites (… read more

How Do You Evaluate Your Speech Therapist?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

What criteria do you use to evaluate your speech therapist? What are the red flags for bad/mediocre therapists? What are the indicators that the therapist is good?

How do you evaluate a speech therapy provider? Does it matter?

I think you can just tell. Do they have a gift with children? Are you impressed when they talk to you? If you think you have a bad one, you probaby do.

Chosing To Miss Therapy Sessions
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I decided to pull my son from a block of group therapies 2 sessions for 3 weeks starting last week on 16th and 18th, he starts nursery school in September as do I (first 2 weeks parents are in the background and on hand if needs be) and I feel that since we only stopped with another therapist on the 15th July that we both need a break before acutual school starts. He has a holiday coming up soon and I just didnt fancy the group issues as a battle (hes not yet adjusted to groups of kids).. I… read more

I think it’s always a good idea to give our kids a temporary break from therapy, especially for the youngest ones who may not understand why so many expectations are being heaped on them. I have had… read more

My Daughter Is Fearful Of Males And We Are Going To Be Having A Male Therapist For The First Time, Should I Not Let This Happen?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is not around other males much except for my husband. The place where she has her ABA wants her to try a male therapist out and slowly get her used to men. I agreed to only let her have her sessions with him at the office, because I feel a stranger especially a male should not come in our home unless she is comfortable as I want her to feel safe in her own home. I am having second thoughts and anxiety over this. I don't know if I am going to make my daughter regress or worsen her… read more

When To Stop ABA Therapy?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

What is the purpose of ABA therapy and how do you know when to stop going? Our child is 3.5 HFA and has met all of his goals and now he is getting new goals. I wonder about graduating from ABA. Is it only for problem and repetitive behaviors? Is it for stopping stemming like lining up cars and hand flapping? Thanks

Jordanliam, One thought would be to get him a butch haircut. If he can't get a hold of it, he can't pull it.

About To Start ABA With Laurel- What Should I Expect?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hope this answer still helps. For us, we haven't gotten the hours we need for a full time ABA program--we've just been getting about 8 hours a week due to lack of availability of therapists. Our ABA… read more

Bored And Angry Behavior
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am in need of advice, my daughter has been in ABA theraphy for the past year. She is very bored and does not want to play with the therapist toys and keeps signing all done. She even lost interest in her own toys and activities that she use to enjoy. I don't understand what's happening. We try new things, but I am running out of ideas and it's getting a bit ridiculous having to have new toys brought out at her theraphy sessions. Has anyone's child done this similar behavior and did anything… read more

What Shoul I Expect At The ABA Evaluation?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am starting ABA therapy finally with my 28 month old son. It's in-home therapy. I got the approval letter yesterday from insurance and now the ABA therapist people are going to call me to make an appointment for the first visit. What should I expect? They will determine how much therapy and other things at this first meeting I think. Anyone with advice that might help me? I would greatly appreciate it.

My son is 28 months old and he just started to approximate single words about two months… read more
