My daughter has been exhibiting what appears to be a new stimming behavior. It all started a few months ago during a vacation to the beach in Florida, my daughter started to open her eyes extremely wide every few moments for no apparent reason. This continued for several weeks and persists now during school and when she gets home. She also will tug at her bottom eye lids, causing some slight bruising as she does it frequently. She recently received a full eye exam--her first, which she did GREAT… read more
My daughter started doing this just this week- exactly as you describe- I noticed it after coming from the splash pad park being in the hot bright son- like she was having a hard time adjusting her… read more
My daughter just left with her class for a trip to Hawaii! I wish I would have known about the DPNA code when they were making reservations. Am I the last to know?
From the link below:
In 2008, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) introduced a new code, “DPNA”, which stands for “disabled passenger with intellectual or developmental disability needing assistance”. You can use this code to book flights for passengers with autism, down syndrome, and so on.
The code alerts airline… read more
Didn't know of this either. I don't know if my son will use this or not.
How do you transition an 11 yo from rolling his whole body on the wall. He doesn't do this all the time just when he goes down the hallway. He loves it and sometimes he doesn't because he knows he's not supposed. Once he starts you can't stop him. He'll go back and forth a few times.
He is high functioning ASD, ADHD, Sensory seeker and behavior issues.
We did OT once and it was a very upsetting experience. He has stopped rolling on the walls...I'm not sure why he was doing it. Still it stopped for now. At the time I think we were very busy and… read more

My ds sees his friends walk to school and from school alone... he is very upset and literally sad that he can not do this. We started letting him walk the dog this summer up and down the street. Of course he goes way to far but always comes back and I am proud of him for that. This is one thing we do when he wont go out and only wants to watch tv. Also, when he is fighting with me. It's one way I can get away from him. There are those really bad days and it gives me a break and he comes… read more
DS is in elementary school (4th grade) and they don't have a program like that. It really bothers me to see kindergarten through 5th graders walking home on the roads. We've had issues where… read more
My son has began hitting or tapping when he gets excited. He will do that anything or anyone. I figure its his way of stemming, but it's getting to the point where it can be harmful if he is really excited or really upset. I have been looking into behavior therapy to help control his reactions and just wanted to know some of your experiences with this type of behavior and if you sought out treatment and what was the result during and after treatment? Thank you for all who reply! #SHARINGISCARING
My ds taps his foot loud... he has a lot of negative behavior and for him you would have to take away the house sometimes to get things to work. So we gave up and just remind him to stop. Or we've… read more
His new thing... doesn't matter what the reward is... he says, I don't want it anyway... I don't need it anyway... is this what they call Tween Hood. I was finally going to take away his xbox today and he finally went and got dressed... of course he had to make farty noises...wage his butt at me... make funny faces first... my blood pressure luckily didn't blow... the problem is... if you take away his xbox or computer... that means there will be a physical fight because because he will… read more

Very frustrating.. .I know my ds wants to play soccer but acts more like a cheerleader... I took him out a few years ago because of the comments. My dd plays and has issues too.. not diagnosed autistic but has other issues with limbs more like sezures... maybe dispraxia...not sure yet.
I will watch my ds and see if he starts on the board again. Thanks a bunch for your help!!
