My five year old Grace can't brush her teeth because of her sensory issues. I can only brush them for a short time, but she cringes as if I'm running my nails down a black board. I know she isn't hurt by me brushing, it's just the brushing sensation. Does anyone have any tips so that I can make this a better experience for her? So that it's not so unpleasant? She wants to brush her teeth, and is excited to do so, but every day is hell for her doing so. I feel bad.
That's great Bionic! Hopefully he gets adjusted to it quickly!
My daughter has several cavities. She has gotten fillings before. The dentist said that she needs to brush and floss. They also said that milk has sugar in it and she needs to drink more water instead of milk. I feel guilty because I forget to remind her to brush her teeth and we don’t keep up with flossing at all.
Aziel hates brushing his teeth. It’s always a struggle. We haven’t been able to get his electric toothbrush yet to try that. We are looking into the one that projects water out of it so it takes care… read more
My asd daughter, almost 3 now, hates brushing her teeth. She is very sensitive to textures and tastes. Any toothbrushes or toothpaste that worked well for any of you? And any methods for making brushing teeth less of a dreaded task?
It's OK. Don't give up. Set a routine. We persisted with my nephew and now at 8 he doesn't miss his toothbrush. He needs help but long gone those tantrum filled nights. Even NT have sensory with… read more
My son is 7 and his teeth are growing in very far apart, he is going to need braces, has anyone been in this situation? How did it go?
A good indicator of if your child will be able to tolerate wearing braces would be how he currently handles tooth brushing. If he has any aversions or oral sensitivity challenges with tooth brushing… read more
Anyone have good advise on how to get an ASD 2 year old toddler to brush his teeth. I swear my son acts like I'm about to murder him and I'm left feeling like a child abuser when I'm just trying to help him. I don't think he has had his teeth brushed well in months (maybe more). I'm sure there are some sensory issues going on because he does not chew well. However he needs to find a way to push pass this or he will get cavities. Any advise?
My son even to this day would lock his jaw . He would also sound like he was getting murderer and it was always a terrifying experience. Are we damaging him emotionally?? His teeth still needed to… read more
My gson either doesn't wipe good or doesn't wipe at all. I keep wipes and even rubber gloves. He's 11 yrs old and i worry about him getting bullied over it. I keep wipes and underwear at school for him. I have spoken to all of his Dr's. I don't know what else to do about it.
This is a tough one, but our daughter mastered it. I still keep extra underwear and wipes in backpack for emerencies, but she does not have to use them. She is 12 and we had to move onto the next… read more
Michael is 3 and it's a battle to get his teeth brushed. I'm sure I'm not doing a good enough job. He forces the brush out repeatedly and clamps his teeth down on it other times. It got better with an electric toothbrush, but still not great or easy. His Dr. recently recommended going back to a finger toothbrush. I got chewed on so badly I felt like I'd been attacked. Needless to say, I'm not going back in there like that again! Any suggestions would be appreciated!
electric toothbrush that plays music/ did Justin bieber for a grandchild// sugarfree gum can help get junk out of the back teeth, where they're less apt to put toothbrush
My son is almost 10 years old and we still struggle with brushing teeth, trimming nails, getting haircuts and going to the dentist. He lets my sister trim his nails so that is good. We've learned to… read more
How can I get my 5yo autistic son to brush his teeth? He's completely non verbal, and he just bites the toothbrush, if I can even get it in his mouth. I've tried vibrating toothbrushes, the tooth brush song, and brushing mine at the same time, but he just won't let me. He will chew on the toothbrush when he has it himself, but only if it seems like no one is watching, and then he scrubs the floor with it. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Finger toothbrush.......you may get bitten a few times but worth a try!!
