I dont know where to start, even when i google it, theres nothing in my area, and we are in a large city. Philadelphia, PA--anyone know where I can get some information?
Has anyone found this effective? Anyone in the greater Boston Area doing this?!
Thanks!
The Early Intervention preschool that DD attended from 2 until 3 1/2 used ESDM. It pulls from the best of the various approaches (ABA, DTT, Floortime, TEACCH, etc.) and DD really responded to it.
My four year old son, Jacoby, has ADHD and high functioning autism. I am so confused and overwhelmed with the different therapies. I only know a little bit and ABA is the one that keeps popping up. What other therapy options are there and what are the pro cons? I just want to do what's best for him!
At his age, it's important to get him evaluated by the school district too. At age 3 they begin working with kiddos in pre-k special day classrooms. I was SUPER hesitant to get the school involved so… read more
Has anyone or is anyone using the Son-Rise program?
I wish I could find providers where I live! I'm in Northern Virginia and haven't found anyone who does it here. But we've watched the videos and I try to do some of it and some ESDM at home.
We have been at the same ABA place for a year. I am thinking of looking into somewhere else. My daughter has had some improvements but not what I would have thought or expected within a years time. She seems really bored and her behavior lately has been at its worst. I have talked with her supervisor about changing things up but never seems to happen. Can anyone offer advice or tips about how you know that you are at the right place and how your child does with ABA. I don't know much since it's… read more
the model they use for treatment is really important as is the therapist and their connection to your child - chemistry. We've had great success with the "Early start denver model" of ABA - theres a… read more
Lady who gave me report was on her last week. Spent a month online, overwhelmed myself w/treatment options. Called insurance, they can’t tell me anything w/o specific treatment (report lists areas of focus, no type). Called diagnosis place few wks ago, was told they’d see about diff clinician looking over report & advising me. Still waiting. Pediatrician gave me list of 3 centers to try. One closed last year due to funding. One is too far for continual treatment. 3rd is place I’m already dealing… read more
ABA therapy does teach social skills. My son did ABA therapy from age 6 1/2 to age 8. He was a huge help! Highly recommend it.
I am going to lose it.Â
I get DS (10.5 mo) down for a nap without interruption, which is a feat in itself.Â
Feed DD snack. Go to wipe her face because of peanut butter (from her crackers) all over it. She throws a fit, and wipes more PB back on. I remove crackers, and offer to let her wipe her own face. She refuses, so I do it. Crap hits the fan. Screaming at the top of her lungs, and wakes up DS, who looks scared out of his mind when I go in to help him.
Put DS down in his crib (he is still… read more
You can explain to her that if she refuses to wipe the peanut butter off, then she will have to have crackers without peanut butter. This may cause a behavior at first, but she is having behaviors now… read more
My son is 15 months old. He had started saying about three words but mainly just grunting and screeching. Now he doesn't say ANYTHING. He won't even mimic sounds anymore. Is this normal?
Now we are having babies can't wait come out because my sons pediatrician is concerned about his behavior. And it seems that he has several "red flags"
even if he can't yet be be formally assessed for all developmental skills/progress, which I am sure some places will...You could also take him to a speech-language pathologist had have his… read more
