My Son Communicates With His Therapists But Not Us. Anyone Else Experienced This?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

He is 2.5 years old and now knows 40 words. He says “up” when he wants to be picked up. Says “help” when he wants help and “go” when he wants to leave one room to another. However, I see this consistently with his aba therapists, and speech therapist but not so much at home where he just wants to play all the time and throws tantrums when he doesn’t get his way.

Why Does She Scream?!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

Vanessa will scream when I ask her to pick up anything. Or if I ask her a question. I don’t know why. Yesterday she got craft paper all over the floor. I asked her what she’d do if I asked her to pick it up. She screams like she’s anxious or afraid. But she does it while looking at me and smiling like it’s on purpose. I don’t know if she’s doing that so I will pick it up for her or what. What can I do? I sat down and helped her put the paper away and prompted her a few times to keep doing it… read more

Have you tried timers? I use them for everything I need my daughter to do. I even have it in her IEP. It gives them a time of when the expectation is to be done.

What Can I Get Her To Do?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

Yesterday Vanessa was supposed to be getting dressed for bed. She asked her dad and I to clean up her room. She didn’t want to get ready for bed. She will also wait until we get into our bed to cuddle and sing and then say that she didn’t brush her teeth
We will tell her that we will do it tomorrow. We told her that we will clean her room tomorrow (today). So today after school I tell her that we’re going to clean her room. She says that she completely forgot and that she’s changed her mind. I… read more

Maybe cleaning her room is overwhelming. You could break it down further to first, put clothes in the hamper, second, put toys in the box (if she uses a toy box), third, put books on bookshelf. You… read more

Constantly Dumping Food
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

My 4.5 year old son is extremely picky when it comes to food. He only eats a handful of things such as Goldfish(only the coloured ones) , chips, Froot Loops. He is constantly wanting to dump the bags out and eat off the floor. He finds creative ways to distract us just to do this. Sometimes he doesn’t even want to eat it, just wants to dump. Anyone else dealt with this or have insight into why? It is extremely frustrating for me, let alone the cost and food waste.

ABA Goals / Expectations
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

Our son is almost 3 and we just recently were able to get him in ABA but first we have to fill out an intake packet
Now they ask us many, many questions. There's one that says what are your goals and expectations from us? This is what I wanted to put down: Goals for now
-Find a positive way to help him with transitions and to help him to vocalize what he needs/wants without screaming. (Sign language, PECS, etc)
Expectations:
-Explain ABA strategies, etc and coach us to help our child (for… read more
