I see the label HFA and I just wonder how it differs from Aspergers.
Our diagnostician says the only difference in HFA and Aspergers is the spelling
Does anybody know about any waivers or grants offered for children with Aspergers syndrome? Something that could be used to pay for a companion or respite care? I know HCBS waivers cover that...but not sure if they do for Aspergers. The child was Medicad and lives in Florida. Thanks!
The obstacles are far bigger than SSI or Medicaid....if the child has a diagnosis of Asberger's a lot of them are automatically excluded (even tho they are doing away with the Asppergers diagnosis)… read more
Since learning about Asperger's for my daughter I'm finding so often that I relate to so much of what I read. I've always just felt like an awkward person, even with people I'm close to like family.
So, me and my husband took an online asperger test (just for curriosity's sake) and we both scored pretty high. I actually scored higher than my husband. We've started talking about things we… read more
The developmental pediatrician who diagnosed DD said that the diagnostic criteria for Asperger's excludes a speech & language delay. So my DD's diagnosis is HFA rather than Asperger's because she has… read more
Can someone please explain the difference between Asperger's Syndrome and PDD-NOS. I can't find an answer that makes sense to me. Thank you in advance for your help.
Thanks Elizabeth. The questioning has died down for now, since school started. I guess he was not sure what summer was going to be like and now that's over.
How many of you have given your ASD child the vocabulary that goes with the disorder? In other words, my 8 year old was evaluated and diagnosed with HFA in the spring. We told her that this was to help her with some of the things she has trouble with like focusing on tasks or talking to other children but we haven't give her he word AUTISM yet.
Have you told your child to whole story? If so, how did it go? Any advice?
I think it's time.
My oldest (Aspergers) knew right away as he was 8 when diagnosed. My middle son (ASD) we told when my oldest was diagnosed. We didn't use any books just told them. They both did very well with it… read more
My daughter read "All cats have Aspergers" over and over and could identify with the cats in the book. She enjoyed.
I could use some kid friendly suggestions of explaining Autism to kids. In a language they can understand and comprehend (mostly non-autistcs).
I bought the book My Brother Charlie for my friends kids.
I read about how some parents say they have Asperger's and have kids that have autism but I was curious if there are parents out there that would not be characterized as having Asperger's type of autism but are parents. It would a long time before my ASD daughter would have kids and wonder if anyone has been through that experience.
I don't have an answer, just a comment on your speculation :)
I think that there is more to the answer than that. For a very long time non-verbal equated mental deficiency in the eyes of medical… read more
It's more of a discussion really than a question, there is a rise of TV shows with the starring role filled by actors playing a person with Asperger's (The Bridge, Hannibal, ect) as a mother of a daughter with Asperger's who is 8 I like and dislike this at the same time. I do like that Asperger's is something that is being talked about now, that people have a basic understand and that people with it would not be treated as bad. The down side of this is that the actors usually have the lead role… read more
