How Do I Deal With My Son's New Behaviors During Diaper Changes?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

Hi, I have a son who is over 5 years old and has autism who is still in diapers
Over the past 3-4 months, he's been exhibiting some changes in behavior when it comes to diaper changes. It started with him refusing to acknowledge when he had pooped in his diaper. He wouldn't let me change it and instead would have a major meltdown. He wanted to keep it on and continue doing whatever he was doing. He would happily sit in his dirty diaper all day if I allowed it, as it didn't bother him at all.… read more

Is It Common For Someone On The Spectrum To Steal?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

I've read that stealing is not something that goes along with autism. However, I've researched this a little bit and have found that many people ask questions about it. My grandson doesn't "steal" in the truest sense of the word, but he does take things that aren't his, like pencils, scissors, and other random items. When asked, he as no real answer about why he does it.

My 5 Years Son Cries A Lot In The Car. He Keeps On Saying This Way,that Way .
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

We are having difficult time having my son ride the car as he cries a lot and cries hysterically. He will say this way, that way and we can't practically follow him as those ways doesn't take us to the destination. He seems to be wanting to go opposite of where we want to go. And it's not for entire route but majority of the route.

It's so difficult to handle as it sometimes distracts me from driving too and get irritated too.

Anyone experiencing the similar thing or any suggestions.

Thank… read more

5yr Old Boy With ASD. We Make Just Too Much To For Medicaid Programs, But Too Poor To Pay For The Amount Of Therapy He Needs. Options?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

His school provides bare minimum with therapy. Our kids (only) were once on Medicaid and it seemed to provide pretty decent therapy throughout the week, however, with a pay bump at my job, and my wife now going back to work, we are just over the threshold for Medicaid. Private therapy is something that I know is worth it but again cannot simply afford it. Meanwhile our son has gone on 25min tangents in his classroom to the point where the teachers are growing intolerant. What are options for us… read more

Autism And Illness
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

Now that we are in the middle of cold and flu season (and also Covid) I wanted to get some tips or advice about giving meds to young autistic children who are non-verbal. It’s a challenge for us to even know what ails my son because he doesn’t communicate well.

Right now, he’s had a bad cold for a week and I took him to the doctor and he also has an ear infection. They prescribed antibiotics in liquid form but I can’t disguise it in chocolate milk because the taste is too strong. The… read more
