When reading about repetitive behaviors and autism, I mostly see things such as "lining up toys", "sorting things by colors", etc. or they talk of stimming behaviors, "hand flapping", " finger flicking", etc.
So I'm looking for others who have an autism diagnosis who do not or are not affected by those types of repetitive behaviors. Anyone?
My son does sort and organize but he also hugs and enjoys physical contact which is atypical of autism. Just because someones on the spectrum doesn't mean they're going to exhibit every symptom.
Yes
regardless if she needs to go or not, take her in the bathroom every hour to 'Try', she does not need to produce, but the repetitive visits will help her be more relaxed and calm and will help… read more
Many people only know autism from the outside looking in.
I want to help you understand it from an autistic point of view, and learn why we do the things we do!
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, I shared it with my husband. Our son is 18, besides autism he was also diagnosed with intellectual disability. He’s non speaking, however, he can say some… read more
Sharla the "Sounds like you want to clean the bathroom" worked like a charm! It took 3 -4 times but it stopped that annoying behavior!
Any apps or suggestions to improve fine motor movements
Dexteria Jr.-Fine Motor Skills Development App. Our OT adviced us it's really helpful.
When my daughter was about 6 she used to continuously take her pants off which is a similar situation. I agree with what Alyssa439 suggested. Such a great and positive approach.😊

My son will be five next month but he doesn’t understand the concept of age or birthdays. Are there any learning tools or apps that would help him learn about counting/numbers, letters, etc.? I’m trying to enroll him in some kind of structured program and vacillating between ABA therapy, a special ed classroom or general ed pre-school/T-K. He hasn’t grasped basic concepts of learning and is mostly non-verbal. However, he goes to speech therapy several days a week and it has helped him. TIA for… read more
Your welcome! Happy to share some of what we have gone through! 😀
My son wants to throw things away. I have no idea why he wants to do this. But he wants to throw things away so badly that he actually will rip up items so he "justify" throwing them away. He throws away books, clothes, food, etc. It happens every day, throughout the day, and multiple times per day.
He's 18 so I can't physically stop him. I am able to delay him. He also gets sneaky about it to the extent of getting up during the night to throw things away.
Ideas anyone?
Did you ever find a solution to this? Currently dealing with the exact same behavior.

Thank you! Appreciate the information
Our doctor gave baby a delayed diagnosis to see his social skills. He has many red flags and has SPD but he holds eye contact and shows emotion. He sometimes speaks in weird wys and repetitive sounds when stressed to.
You may want to look up Non verbal learning disorder, or the "new" diagnosis social communication disorder and see if it sounds like your boy.
