How do u know if your child needs ABA?
It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT
My 6 y /o little boy will pee pee in the toilet almost all the time, but he has never had a bowel movement in the toilet. He will hold it all day and will go in his underwear at night or wait until we put his pull up on for bedtime. He has even held it for so long he became constipated. I have asked for ideas from his pediatrician, OT, ABA therapist at school, and researched the internet all to no avail. Does anyone have ideas that worked for their child?
My son struggled also, I believe he was 7 until he had bowel movements on the potty. Hang in there, it will resolve. I agree with rewards and all that if it works. Sometimes they really just aren't… read more
Anybody have ideas about chillin in airports? My 20 year old is going to Alaska- cross country with us to visit her brother! She loves to engage people by poking or stepping on their feet- yikes!
We traveled the Alaska Canadian Highway several times. AKA the Alcan. My autistic child taught himself to read by being provided with lots of brochures and finding them along the roadway along with… read more

My daughter and 2 of her classmates will soon "age-out" of our state's education program for special needs children. They have "behaviors" that will prevent them from obtaining and keeping a job. There are also no affordable facilities or programs for young adults in our area. As a group we would like to develop a program similar to the one they have at school but lack the funds. I've researched online but was only shown sites to obtain funding for chartering a school which is not what we… read more

My 5 year old son often asks me, "Is this a dream?". Do I need to be concerned about this? Is he not understanding reality vs. Fantasy? Could this be a sleep issue? Anyone else have this issue?
Thank you! We will implement the strategies suggested. I'm looking forward to seeing results.
Daughter will not use the toilet, she will sit there (no results). We have tried bribes(toys, candy, videos)panties, pullups, setting her potty chair in the living room, taking her every hour, but nothing seems to work. she doesn't seem to care that she's wet and she will wait and go in her diaper. Any sugestions?
My daughter didn't understand what it was that she was supposed to be doing in there. She had no context for words like potty, poopoo, and peepee. Finally, my wife closed the door and personally… read more
It's been difficult to find other females on the spectrum. Peers and playdates for my 7 y.o. daughter are getting fewer and farther between, and while we (she is PDD-NOS, I am an Aspie) share many of HFA's more common characteristics, our social and physiological challenges manifest differently. Women and girls, what are your experiences? How do you cope and connect?
There needs to be a big change and/or movement in raising awareness and changing the scope of testing that is done on females because they present very differently than males and are often times… read more
