My Little Boy Is Refusing To Do Anything He Does Not Want To Do
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

In school he has always been cooperative. Now when there is math or writing (which he HATES) he puts his head on his desk and will not participate. Teacher tried charts reward, encouragement , schedule and nothing motivates him. At home he will not take his plate from the table to sink or anything else we ask of him. He says no no no and nothing motivates him.

His wonderful ABA therapist is having the same reaction when she has something for him to do. If he likes it he will do it. If it is… read more

I struggle with all of this too. My son is 18. We are truly having trouble. I was just researching PDA-ASD. Now I'm in tears and feel more lost than ever. My son fits the PDA profile to a "T".

ABA Therapy?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've heard mixed things about ABA therapy and I don't really love the idea of it. Generally, I've heard more bad than good. Any experiences where it really worked well for a kid who generally responds well to cues, is verbal, and does function in school with some supports. My kid is Level 1 ASD, and the clinic where he was diagnosed didn't recommend ASD, but his pyschiatrist has recommended it and is pushing us to do it. ( the psychiatrist is ok, not great, but I haven't had the bandwidth to… read more

Safety Management System + Tracking Device
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello
We are a startup trying to develop a safety management system for parents whose children are struggling with Autism. The technology would include a tracking device and a smartphone application. We are trying to inbuilt a layered approach for safety starting from setting fences, alarms right up to tracking the kid (when he/she wanders off) which is really the last layer of safety
I want you people to pour in your ideas and reflections on such a device, like whether the device will… read more

Great idea! We can definitely incorporate the scanning mechanism which may identify them, but just to gain more insight, why do you prefer the scanning mechanism? Why not just engrave the contact… read more

Tracking Watch
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter leaves safe boundaries, and I really need a way to find her, and to know when she is not where she is supposed to be. I am looking for a tracking device that she cannot remove, preferably, or one that is desirable enough that she will not want to remove it. I am hoping for GPS and geofencing. I know there are several new items soon-to-be available, but I can't seem to find anything currently available that is reasonable. Ideally it would allow me to choose my own provider, since… read more

Have Any Of You Put Information About Your Kids In Your Car In Case Of An Emergency? What Information Did You Provide?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I want to include information about what his anxieties are, picture, what meds he takes, etc. What have you included? I know it's a long shot, but in the chance that we are in an accident and my husband or I are not coherent enough to give the pertinent information about my children, I want emergency professionals to be able to help my son the best they can. Did you also provide the information to the police station? How about other family members? Thanks :)

Advice For Plane Rides
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

About to go on the first plane ride with my 2.5 year old (not a vacation - we are moving). Worried about ear pain and noise level (wont tolerate anything in or on ears), will they accommodate the amount of liquid I'll need to take (not eating solids right now), and worried about things I can't anticipate! I plan to call the airline to request early boarding, minimal lines, and tours if available. Any words of wisdom?
