A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Help my ex wont give my son his meds on the weekends or vacation time he has him. so my son goes days without it and comes home more upset and violent with his sisters and me. I have try to talk to his father about making sure that he gets it but got told that he can give it to himself which the doctor says no because of where he is on the spectrum. I have tired talking to DFCS where I live and got told they cant do anything because I have the child most of the time. What else can I do because… read more

It is a form of negligence called medical negligence, I believe, for a parent to not give meds. I’m shocked that DCFS won’t do anything! CPS? My ex is the same but my child is only on meds when she is… read more

Are There Items You Wish You Could Find/buy At A Store?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been kicking around the idea of opening a store that specializes in items for children with ASD and other special needs. I'm thinking things like balance beams, spin boards, fidget toys, books about special needs kiddos, the super soft underwear with covered elastic, therapy brushes - the list of things could go on and on.
So my question is - are there items that you wish you could buy at a local store instead of online?

Parenting Friends Of Neurotypical Kiddos Not Understand Neurodivergent Kiddos
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a group of friends who have been such great mom friends. But ever since Johns Diagnosis they seem to not be as helpful. They don’t quite understand the demands of therapy and ABA and the schedule juggling. They try to help but often I find them more annoying then helpful. They even try to talk to me about their Neurotypical kiddos problems at school and I try to help but also find myself getting annoyed at there problems as well. Does anyone else feel this way. Is it part of the process… read more

Thank you this makes me feel less alone that I feel this way. My friends are great moms but I sometimes wish their biggest struggles are only half of what I have to deal with on a day to day.

Im so sorry to hear this. You must feel stressed about it. I agree with what’s been said. The behaviours are showing overwhelm or distress. This means staff need to be proactive. Sometimes those… read more

Has Anyone Checked Out Elizabeth Strickland’s Book Called Eating For Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve had some mild success with taking my lovely boy off of dairy. His BMs have improved greatly and I’ve noticed some change in his behaviour.

Has anyone found any particular book or method helpful? I saw this one and might pick it up. I’d prefer something i can keep in the kitchen with me instead of a digital version.

Thanks everyone!!

Has Anyone Experienced Stimming Behavior Of Opening Eyes Extremely Wide In ASD Children?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter has been exhibiting what appears to be a new stimming behavior. It all started a few months ago during a vacation to the beach in Florida, my daughter started to open her eyes extremely wide every few moments for no apparent reason. This continued for several weeks and persists now during school and when she gets home. She also will tug at her bottom eye lids, causing some slight bruising as she does it frequently. She recently received a full eye exam--her first, which she did GREAT… read more

Does OT Work To Help Asperger's Child Not Need To Smell Blanket?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 11 year old started middle school his year and seems to need to smell his blanket the minute he gets home until he falls asleep. Would OT help relieve some of this? It's getting harder to help him process all that's going on in his head. Also, I'm worried about how to get jim to an OTist. Just observing him for a small period of time in an office, he seems perfectly normal. It's at home he "bounces ", smells, has emotional melt downs. He was borderline a few years ago and we have not had him… read more

That's very true. Probably why it seems more pronounced when he returns home from school. Another coping mechanism is exactly what i was hoping an OT could provide. Thanks for your input. It's always… read more
