The Kids Who Beat Autism
By RUTH PADAWERJULY 31, 2014
At first, everything about L.'s baby boy seemed normal. He met every developmental milestone and delighted in every discovery. But at around 12 months, B. seemed to regress, and by age 2, he had fully retreated into his own world. He no longer made eye contact, no longer seemed to hear, no longer seemed to understand the random words he sometimes… read more
Just a thought but many autistic kids lose their autism diagnoses as they get older and learn more strategies to help with behaviors and to act neurotypical.
Hello autism team family- what types of places would be good to take your high functioning child to help with social settings, anxiety, etc.She has a hard time with social skills .
Oh wow HaliieMiddlebrooks, I didn't know that Ill have to check into that. Thanks!
@Autistic, you are not like my daughter, husband or his high-functioning ASD family. They lie all the time. They are dishonest. They manipulate and push people into a corner with threats. They say… read more
Is it weird that I'm a bit nervous if my son will ever achieve a full life on his own without me when he is older? I feel like that is just wrong of me. I love my son, I'm just scared to see how it will turn out. & what I mean by a full life, I mean a family of his own, girlfriends, sports, etc. all the things we anticipate for our kids before their diagnosis. I know it's still possible, I just feel nervous, scared, what if it doesn't, because asd prevents it. :/
Hi there!
My name is Shayna Gier, and I wasn't diagnosed until after I had graduated, had a job, dated, and gotten married.
However, not being diagnosed is not the same as not being autistic. I… read more
BTDT = "Been There, Done That" e.g. veterans of whatever is being discussed.
I found this years ago. The host has a child with autism. He interviews with many authors, doctors, providers and other experts about their specialty as it relates to autism. http://www.autismpodcast.org/
Sounds good. Thanks for the info.
For example I knew I was pregnant within a few days of conception, before I could test positive on urine or blood tests. I knew the gender of my children also. I don't respond the same to medications as do neurotypicals apparently. I was refused medicine for my first child because it would slow down the labor, but it was not until I received it that my labor progressed. I am interested in hearing your stories.
I did not know I was autistic until I was given my grandson with level 3 autism to care for last year. I have a lot of issues in and around medications and how they affect me. I have even talked… read more

I just saw this question.
There isn't much help currently for autistic adults. To the majority of people we seem to "evaporate" once we reach adulthood.
Most physicians are bound by stereotypes… read more
My daughter has ABA theraphy and nothing else yet. I want her to have speech, occupational and physical but not sure she would be able to handle all of that at once, plus I don't see how there is enough time to fit all of that in daily. I really need help with which is the most important for her young age. Please share your experiences or what has helped your child during toddler years. Thank you.
My son will be 3 yrs old in September. We do one hour a week of ABA, Speech, PT. In addition, we do 2 hours a week with OT and he attends a playgroup for an hour every week. I have also incorporated a… read more
