I am wondering if any other moms or dads are dealing with apraxia as well as asd? We are two years into our journey and ods apraxia has a profound effect on his communication or lack thereof...any stories or experiences are appreciated! Ods has intent to communicate which is what keeps me hopeful he will speak one day. This past summer he finally was consistently saying ma to get my attention...a milestone for both of us!
My son is diagnosed w ASD and apraxia. We have 2 speech therapists who use PROMPT with him! We also watch the baby babble DVD's. And within 2 weeks of giving DMG supplement he really started trying… read more
Our 10-year-old daughter is blind (no light perception) since a few months of age. She is exceptionally bright-- honor roll student, gifted program, etc., and musically gifted to what might be suggested is nearly savant level with talents that were discovered by accident at age three.
With that said, she has social concerns. Sometimes unpredictable explosive reactions to things. Sound sensitivity. She will focus on things to the extreme-- some item she wants can be all she wants to talk about… read more
Thanks for the answers. I would still like very much to speak with the parents of (or anyone who has worked with) any blind or vision impaired kids diagnosed with ASD. We have started a dialogue with… read more

I believe he struggles to get the words out and it looks like the message from brain to mouth is getting lost...Ive read about CAS childhood apraxia of speech and just wonder is it easily identified or diagnosed?

My previously nonverbal daughter started becoming more verbal in oct of last year. Since then her words have come a long way but are still difficult to understand at times. Like for example, she say "doh" instead of "no" or "chiss" for "chips", and "nana" for "banana." I am wondering if that's a normal thing (if there is a normal) when their language is emerging and just needs more use and fine tuning, or if it could be more. Like Apraxia? Can Apraxia be present in conjunction with ASD?
My sons speech started out the same way. Each year his speech improves & is over 95% intellible now (age 10). He still has trouble with pronunciation of unfamiliar words & there are some words I… read more
My son has apraxia but I have never heard of the prism method?
I'm not sure how to get your email address, but would love to learn more!
My son spontaneously produces the words "go, wow, and uh oh" on a sometimes it's "uh oo" instead or "ga" for go. He has tried to say other words but usually leaves off the first letter, says the vowel sound wrong, or its unintelligible to anyone but me. I know that he's trying to say the words because he does it with the sign language. For water he says "gwagwa" :D so cute but still nobody can understand that but me when/if he decides to use it purposefully.
What's even worse than that is that… read more
Thanks he is diagnosed with Autism already not apraxia though and his speech therapist hasn't mentioned apraxia to me yet but he doesn't usually talk much when she is over. Yeah he definitely has a… read more
My son has very limited understandable speech and LOTS of errors in sounds. Dog is "gog" bye is "bah" cookie, turkey, yuckie, come out as "uhkie" home is "yum" and he can make a lot of sounds but they are always in the wrong place like he can say "uhkie" but not "key" alone and I know it's not just apraxia he definitely has autism but I think he may be higher functioning than I give him credit for because he recognizes a lot more words than he can say even though he is far from normal in… read more
He says words wrong and they change a lot too but not every time. I can understand him, like half the time but I'm the only one. Thanks for the feedback. My son starts Aba in a week
