Iām asking because I have a long time friend, love her to death, but we were on the phone for a very long time when Aziel and his ASD became the next topic to talk about. She kept asking me, āwhat coping strategies do we have in place for when he canāt āstimā?ā She kept on with using scenarios that do not apply to my kid. I was getting irritated but my deep breaths and trying to understand kept me from getting mad. However, she began stating that there will be a time where he wonāt be able toā¦ read more
I find the well-meaning incorrect advice and the judging of my parenting and the lack of understanding frustrating in my social circle as well. I just remind myself that they can't relate, becauseā¦ read more
When I was around eight years old, I began to have anger issues. I had outbursts, would call people names, and would even hit others. It came to a head when I slapped my grandmother in front of my family. My mother took me to a therapist and after three or so months I was much better. She didn't conclude I was Autistic for some reason, but that's a whole other story.
My son avoids conflict. He only hits himself if he's stressed out & overwhelmed. He's never had any angry outbursts or anything like that. I try to keep a very positive, calm & relaxing environmentā¦ read more
How do you explain to your 8yr that his baby brother has autism, and that he canāt be mean to him when he doesnāt listen or destroys his stuff. We havenāt started ABA therapy yet, and itās a recent diagnosis so weāre all adjusting to this new life style for our little guy.
Thank you guys for the help! And the amazing advice! I will probably have a ton more questions so I hope Iām not bothering anyone with all of them!
My son used to eat almost everything. But now there is a new item that he just doesn't want to eat. I am runing out of ideas ( also patience, is very frustrating because he is starting to lose weight).
Any advise?š
Thank you for the tip

My Non verbal Autistic daughter tries to hit other kids... how do i stop that?
Couldnt agree more
TBHā I want a comparison. I guess I want to stop ignoring attention seeking just because of my emotions.
My (4) year old has limited verbal skills, but she knows "Mommy" and she will yell it at the top of her lungs if she loses sight of me. If I don't respond right away she escalates. Its incrediblyā¦ read more
My son started kindergarten last week and he has a paraprofessional. It's been a rough start, my son is pulling things of shelves, makes noises and even kicked some people in the classroom. He's not violent with us, so this has to be related to being overwhelmed
Unfortunately his para is not trained to deal with autistic behaviors and the teacher doesn't seem to want to deal with the situation (I get it, she has many other kids to teach). Have any of your kids struggled in kindergarten? Did itā¦ read more
