What Causes Autism? How Can It Be Treated?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve heard that too much screen time causes autism. And that you can improve autism by spending more time with your child.

Screen time does NOT cause autism. Autism starts in the womb, caused by nothing other than the fact that we are all created to be who we are for a reason 😊 The world needs neurodiversity! Screen time… read more

Video Games As An Escape
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello all. I have a 24 year old son who is passionate about video gaming and has dreams of competing professionally one day.

He got into video games and trading card games early on and for a long time I thought it was just a hobby. But I’ve come to see that I think gaming might serve as an escape for him. He’s very empathetic and has said to me before that he doesn’t understand why this world is so hard and cruel.

I worried that it might be an obsession but his online gaming has presented… read more

What Phone Apps/games Do Your Kids Play?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has an extremely hard time playing typical phone/tablet games. He REALLY doesn't understand how to play and that can really upset him. What games do you find your kids playing? We have android phones, but are trying to save up for a Fire tablet. Additionally, we try not to spend any money on games, cause he stops playing them so fast. He has trouble with all matching type games, like Candy Crush. ANY ideas are helpful, he loves playing that phone and it is so hard to find games he'll be… read more

Things To Keep Them Busy On The Airplane
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I will take a long plane ride with my sons 5 and 1. Can you suggest things on the plane to keep them busy? My 5 yo loves traveling, so the traveling itself is not a problem so much as the sitting. I am not averse to technology and videos, but I don't have any supplies, so I need to start preparing. Thank you!

Does Anyone Have Advice For Getting A Child To Open Up His Interests?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My oldest (11 HFA) hates going outside, has no interest in playing outside or learning a sport. Inside he will read magazines or thumb though a book but won't play with any toys or instruments. Basically he wants to be on WiiU or Playstation every waking second. We've tried limiting his time and he will just wait until its his time again and do nothing else but wait. I've tried to engage him in games or playing but in that vein nothing has changed since he was a baby (he didn't want to play with… read more

How To You Manage Screen Time With Your Child?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Especially computer and video game time. I would say at least 50% (or more) of our 10yo Aspie's meltdowns revolve around screen time. I will admit we have not been the most structured iver the years. We have revolved between getting rid of all screen time (including our TV) because he was so heavily drawn to it, to severe limitations, to saying the heck with it and just letting him do what he wants. We also have used it as an incentive and a consequence. It's becoming obvious to me that we need… read more
