Looking For An Elementary School In Raleigh, NC For High Functioning ASD 5 Yr Old? Any Opinions?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We are moving to Raleigh this month and we are hoping to find a school that would be a good fit for a high functioning autistic 5 yr old boy. Does any one have any thoughts or experiences that might point us in the right direction?

Thanks!

Where in SC did you live? We have considered Mt. Pleasant and Greenville but felt there were more services available in Raleigh area.

Asheville Vs Cary
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband and I are considering a move to North Carolina from Florida. Our son who will be 5 at the time has mild autism. We love Asheville but are also looking at Cary. It will come down to where we believe he will get the best services. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me what they think of the level of support in these areas. In particular I would like to find out about the quality of support in the Asheville City and Wake Forest school districts.

Looking For A Good School System
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have 4 children. The two oldest, with ASD and learning disabilities are now 24 and 22. Before entering school, my youngest son showed signs of delay but I was reassured he was not on the spectrum. By 3rd grade he was falling farther behind but the school could not provide any explanation or help. After years of fighting with our school system to get them to even acknowledge my other sons' needs but still not providing them, I am pondering moving anywhere to get this one better services. Any… read more

Best Place To Retire With Adult Child?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi guys,

I'm seeking opinions on retirement locations for parents with adult children. I'll retire in another decade, but want to lay the groundwork for a smooth transition. I anticipate my adult son will live with us, so I'm looking for areas with the best services. My current location is pretty decent in terms of services, but it's too costly for retirees. All info is much appreciated!

Thanks.

Can Anyone Just Explain How It Works Moving To Anywhere In The Raleigh North Carolina Area With An Autistic Child?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

How did you get him/her into school, private or public, and how is it going? I understand that there are no actual autism schools as there are in Florida, but I am trying to figure out how public school is system works in North Carolina. Separate classes, different teachers, etc.

Relocating From London UK To Raleigh North Carolina USA
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone please provide me details how good Raleigh is in terms of schooling and support for 4 years old Autistic child. He is mild to moderate non verbal.

London is shrinking in budgets and resources and very difficult to even get speech therapy.

Thinking if Raleigh works out better and may be health insurance benefits from my employer would be good resource to do things privately like speech therapy, Occupational therapy and ABA.

What Schools Would You Recommend In The Raleigh, NC For A High Functioning ASD Child Going Into Kindergarten?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We are considering a move to the Raleigh, NC area this summer. My 4 1/2 year old son was diagnosed with ASD (high function) this past December. We are currently in a really good school district in NJ and are feeling nervous about being able to find a comparable school. He currently has an IEP. Would love feedback, recommendation for schools in the Raleigh, NC.
