My son has autism and is 10. He has become obsessed with riding in the car. I'm thinking it has something to do with sensory needs. It seems to comfort him but it's a complete disruption to everyday life. Does anyone have any advice?
Hi, yes. My girl is 6. She needs a one hour nap between 4-5 to keep her awake so she sleeps at 10-12 pm and hopefully through the night. She has car rides to do this. From 1-3 we were driving all… read more
This is the solution that has worked for my child. He is 10 years old. This has worked for him for about 3 years. Prior to that, he had other medications but they did not work or had side effects… read more
We are planning to visit Disney World in mid-December and I am at a loss for how to plan for such a trip since I am brand new to "this world". I am also having a hard time deciding which park might be the least overwhelming for my 2 children, one with Asperger's and one with ASD. A trip to the grocery store can be interesting to say the least for me so any insight on how to prepare the children for an 8 hour road trip, a stay in a hotel, and a Disney World visit would be very much… read more
get the Passporters book - Disney World and special needs, very helpful
Our son is 20 and for several years he has wanted to go on a long or short car ride daily. He is not happy until he gets his daily ride and then he’s fine for the night or afternoon. Has anyone else experienced this strong desire for a ride in the car? Looking for alternatives that might provide the same sensory stimulation. Gas is pretty expensive and traffic not good in our area.
Would love to hear the experiences of others.
You are not alone. I am paying a lot more attention to my son’s activities before, during and after the ride. Looking for trends. One thing we notice is a desire to stop for food during the ride… read more
My son is 9 years old and does okay with training wheels but it's difficult for him to fit in with the neighborhood boys who don't understand why someone his age has training wheels.
this was difficult for my son too. We would practice on the sidewalk all of the time. One day we took his bike with us to a party. There was an large open parking lot. To our surprise he got on… read more
My 11 yr old daughter is severe and obsessed with car rides. She is constantly wanting to go on them and driving my husband and I nuts. We typically go on 4-5 daily. Each ride has to be a certain route and it has to be around 35 mins. If she doesn't get to go on one, she has horrific meltdowns. It's so expensive on gas, as well as wear and tear on our vehicles. Besides that, winter is coming and there's no way we want to continue driving her like this in the bad weather. We have a behavioral… read more
To answer car ride question: We got my 11 yr Son a laptop last year and showed him maps and gps driving directions to places. He still likes to go on car rides but not as much.
I want to enroll my 7 year old son is some sort of summer camp. We live in southern California. Do you guys know of anything? What are the summer camps like?
Try YMCA day camp if available has been great for us very structured and fun a great combo.
My son loves stickers and bus rides but better is train journey
He likes watching Youtube videos, listening to music, making animation using Stick Node, dancing, ice skating, swimming, eating, and being tickled. Lol.
My daughter Aaleyah is 6 and she hates any type of car ride. She will scream the whole way, head bang and sometimes get out of her seatbelt. We can only go a short distance or nowhere at all... I only drive when i have to. So 98% of the the time I'm at home, what else could i do?
Your welcome. I hope you find a way that works.
Me and my wife got my 5 year old son a Disneyland season pass to try and help his sensory issues. The one main issue has been trying to get him to try new rides. Once he trys them he usually has fun but getting there is a battle sometimes. We also use the handicap fast pass that helps alot but its stressful dealing with full meltdowns everytime we try a new ride. It is also hard to plan out a schedule because it depends on the lines. Any advise if greatly appreciated.
We run into this all the time I will try and tell him this ride( space mt) is like the madahorn and you liked that right? And then he will go on most of the time. But also ask what about it does he… read more
