if my son is playing a game on the copmuter or ps2 and he loses he has a complete meltdown, and i try to calm himm down but talking to him only makes him madder and holding him makes it worse so then my dad(who doesnt understand autism) comes to the bedroom(which has no door on it for me to be able to shut,and tells me to just spank his behind. But I dont want to teach him to hit or slap any more than he does already, anyone got advice, i sure could use it
Just let it run it's course and try to "ignore" it, making sure he can't hurt himself by matter-of-factly removing objects that could cause him harm.
For those of you who have kids that are not non verbal how old where they when they started speaking in sentences? Thanks in advance for your response.
My daughter was 2 years old before she started forming words, about three when she finally started forming sentences. We learned some sign language and that helped a lot.
My daughter puts poop everywhere all the time soon as I check her diaper she's fine 5 minutes later she has it all over help

Hello Melissa, you are in good company. I would suggest calling an IEP and requesting a behavior assessment. With the assessment results, they can provide services from a school behaviorist.

My son is 5.....he has HFA, ADHD combo, SPD, and Pica.....he will use the potty at school but fights at home.....he doesn't mind sitting in soiled or wet pull ups or underwear.....he will go potty if he is changing and has to go.....so now my questions......
How long will this last?
Why doesn't it bother him to be in soiled or wet pull ups or underwear?
Why don't rewards work?

What's normal autistic behavior?
Yes ! Luna does this. She constantly changes her clothes but never puts anything back. She is constantly in the fridge going after her ice cream and yoghurt.
