I don't live in Michigan but . . .
How do you get thru, knowing things are not going to get better & this your life everyday?
Hi! My husband and I are the parents of a non-verbal 18 year old. He was also diagnosed with intellectual disability at level 3, same as his autism. Intellectual disability was called back in the day… read more
My only issues I told them I really am concerned about is the have I started conservatorship/Guardianship I did talk with a lawyer, and I believe a financial planner for special needs community. financial planner was like you may want to think about some things we don't own a house and I don't have any assets I let his teachers know as well and then I don't have that type of money to shell out for that. I will think about again
Are there any moms who have had to leave a job to care for their child with ASD? If so, how did you manage with the financial aspect? I work a 40+ hr job a week and have to take time Doff to take my son to his therapies. He is currently getting therapy twice a week for two hours but will be entering ABA soon and the hours required are pretty much a job itself. To top it off my son has a low immune system so he gets sick a lot... needless to say so far I miss quite a bit of time from work. I need… read more
Yes, I am currently in the process of SSI but I heard that it wasn’t very much. Your right, I just need to research and see what’s out there. It gets so overwhelming sometimes. Thank you!
That is ridiculous. Do you know a lawyer? Maybe reach out to the autism society in your area for assistance

Hello, hope all is well with everyone. I was wondering if anyone here has gone through the process to become the qualified caregiver through IHSS for a child with autism? Also, has anyone qualified for “Protective Supervision" of children with special needs? The americanaadvocacygroup.com, AAG, claims they can assist at every stage of this process. Does anyone know if they are legit?
Hi yes, I’m my oldest daughter’s caregiver. I get paid to take care of her.
Can you contact an estate planner? I worry same for my 28-yr-old adult daughter in an institution now for 6 yrs. and hoping she will gain release soon. I think I have learned that having a will… read more
Dear MyAutismTeam friends,
Please see this just-released study which details the financial cost to the U.S. of caring for individuals with autism across the lifespan. This is valuable information to share with education and political officials. Very little planning is being done, as we all know.
This is the big question that hovers over all of us.

So, I saw this add for a program for our kids that claims 100% positive results. Apparently, it is tailored to each individual child to take specific steps to improve their behavior, diets, social skills, etc. without the use of ABA. I had a one on one call with the founder last week and she claims to have a daughter on the spectrum that has learned to thrive through her program and her website touts other testimonials of people who have seen social, emotional, and verbal improvements in their… read more
