We are thinking of moving out to Hutto, Tx towards the end of the year. My son currently receives OT through Little Tesoro's Therapy Services in north Austin. We also have PHCS multiplan as our insurance carrier.
Ok thanks!
Anyone have any ideas how to create just the right assignment/homework notebook for an Aspie entering high school? Most of the store created ones aren't good enough. They either don't have enough room to write or aren't "guided" enough.
I was referring to where he writes his assignments for homework down. I did the same thing as you though in terms of organization and use one folder for important materials coming and going.
My husband and I have been together for 3 years. We have a 6mo together, neurotypical 4yo (my son, M), and my 10yo stepson (E, with asd
M has been around E since he was a year old. And M shadows E like a hawk. Copies things E does, picked up E's errors in grammar, and some other behaviors
E likes to be left alone. Doesn't like to play. Doesn't like to share. And has basically told everyone, but me that he hates M. E screams at him, gets aggressive, and will squeeze, hit, punch, and hold M… read more
I would think inappropriate language by E would be disciplined, especially if it is hurtful to your other child. The sibling has to be protected. Just because someone has autism does not give them… read more
psychiatrist has recommended boarding school for my 18 yr old nephew. I have looked at Grove School in Connecticut and enquirer about Franklin Academy in Connecticut. Does anyone know anything about these two schools or any other boarding schools for Aspergers not more than 3-5 hrs from New Jersey ?
There is not going to be any supports for these kids. I have been watching the state program very closely and they are decreasing supports although the population is increasing. The district has been… read more
Get enough support behind you,get it in the IEP. They can not refuse if it is what she needs. Also have a Dr. get involved, saying she needs it. No Child Left Behind!! Try to work with the team, but… read more
My 5 year old went from speaking only 5 words at age 2 then spending the next three years with intensive therapies; OT, SP, PT, wrap-around behavior services, Social skills groups, various diet changes, supplements, and therapy based preschool. He will start mainstream kindergarten on Monday with only speech support and speech delay on his IEP since they did not see any ASD behaviors/issues during their evaluations. His wraparound team is recommending reduced hours and suggested he will lose the… read more

My ASD 7 year old son has violent tantrums as well. He is high functioning but when he is in a rage he doesn't seem to understand anything we tell him. We struggle with his aggressions quite a lot but… read more
Did your kids ever get to a point where they "blossomed" socially. I realize our kids won't likely ever be "popular," per se, but I'm thinking more in terms of going from having no close friends to having even 1-2 good friends and/or dating. Our son is 12 and likable, but really has no close friends...has never been on a sleep-over and I can count on one hand all the birthday party invites he's had in his entire life. It makes me sad and I hope it's only a matter of time before he cultivates… read more

My daughter began therapy and went straight to 12-15 hours of therapy a week. Could It be to much for her and that's why she is misbehaving??
When she gets upset, which may or may not have a trigger I can see, all sorts of things happen. It can be a grunt instead of an answer, or hitting her head, pulling her hair,or beating on her legs… read more
My 10 year HFA son still wets the bed nearly every night. He wears an overnight "diaper'" and soaks it, sometimes it leaks and I am washing his sheets multiple times a week. We had his kidneys looked at and the scans came back normal. Additionally, we have tried to keep liquids out of him hours before bedtime and he is miserable. Anyone have a trick up their sleeve they would like to share?
I think your intentions are good HFA, but I don't think shaming him is a good approach. My above questions still stand.
