Does Anyone Know Where To Find Double Wide Shoes In Youth Size For Boys?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has been a toe walker since the age of two. It has become increasingly hard to find double wide shoes as the size goes up. They also need to be good quality because they break down very fast and offer no support. I was shopping at stride rite but since he is in the big kids shoe size now, the pickings are scarce..

Kingashoes.com is the only place I found with extra wide shoes. They are expensive but orthopedic and last through bouncing, jumping, running and attempted toe walking.

Thoughts On Transitioning To College? Driving?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son will graduate from high school next year with honors. I am concerned about college, since my ability to have assignments and grading modified will be nil. Any thoughts on navigating the college experience for my HFA? Any thoughts on driving?

Name Calling
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 11 yr old son has a lot of irritability due to his autism. We have tried many meds to correct this. Currently we are titrating down a med that worked (severe weight gain) nd his irritability is back.

Many teachers and school nurses have started calling him Grumpy. I know he is grumpy, but it doesn’t help him to call him names. I try to teach him not to call others names, hard to do when the authority figures in his life do just that.

I’m frustrated at this. I feel this is a medical… read more

They did and totally agreed! They did say they were joking with him, and meant no harm, but I reminded them that he asked not to be called that. I think we are Ok and they got the message.

Regional Center Vs. Easter Seals
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi
My 26 month old girl with autism has been getting therapy help from regional center 3 days a week and it’s 2 hours per session. Recently kaiser insurance offered her ABA therapy from easterseals 5 days a week 5 hours per session. Does anyone know how different is therapy from regional center and ABA from easter seals? Is one better than the other? Should I stay with regional center until my girl turns 3 and then go with easterseals? Or should I start ABA with easter seals right away? Any… read more

Will A Psychological Evaluation By A Physician Recommending A 504 Plan Be Enough For The School To Grant One?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is newly diagnosed with Asperger's and ADD. I have attempted to get him a 504 Plan twice in the past based on his having ADHD alone. Both times I've been turned down as they do not "see what I see happening at home at school" and that his condition does not affect his schoolwork. I've had him re-evaluated and he had a psycho-educational testing done. He has a lot of problems with social skills, organization and planning. We just received the results. The doctor is recommending a 504 plan… read more
