Our insurance doesn’t provide an extension authorization for ABA services without an updated assessment for ASD.
We received our son’s diagnosis from a Dr in Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon NH, they provided different tests and games toddler related and I’m so glad we went because we could… read more

1) Are there any career assessment tests that are effective for ASD folks? My son AJ is 19 and has moderate autism but doesn't know what he wants to do w/ his life.
2) since my son AJ has a diploma I'm told that the school district cannot provide any further services. If such a test exists, where can it be taken?
3) how would it be paid for?
Thx alot

AngieB, contact the Department of Education for your state. Explain what's been happening and ask if there is someone in charge of special needs/education. Our school district has a Director of… read more
Hello Melissa, you are in good company. I would suggest calling an IEP and requesting a behavior assessment. With the assessment results, they can provide services from a school behaviorist.
My 3.5 YO son is nearing the end of the autism assessment, which has been going on for about 6 weeks. He's been diagnosed with autism, but we still have a final appointment with the psychologist to go over therapies, etc
As a result, we've been going through the PT/OT assessments, lab work, hearing tests - on top of his Mon-Thurs half-day pre-school (IEP -receives OT/PT/speech) and private speech therapy on Fridays. He's missed a couple days of school for his various appointments, but I try… read more
I like the picture idea, I know that they do something similar at school to show the kids how the day will go. Thanks to both of you for the ideas and support.
My 3 yr old just concluded three assessments with the psychologist through our local school district. We will be meeting next month to go over his preliminary IEP. In addition, he will be assessed by the psychologist through our regional center to confirm a diagnosis. For anyone who has completed these same assessments for their child of similar age, how will they (IEP recommendations and regional center evaluation) overlap and how will they differ? For example, in regards to recommended… read more

His school provides bare minimum with therapy. Our kids (only) were once on Medicaid and it seemed to provide pretty decent therapy throughout the week, however, with a pay bump at my job, and my wife now going back to work, we are just over the threshold for Medicaid. Private therapy is something that I know is worth it but again cannot simply afford it. Meanwhile our son has gone on 25min tangents in his classroom to the point where the teachers are growing intolerant. What are options for us… read more
I was surprised but my employer’s medical insurance covered speech and OT therapy (after the deductible, and with a copay).
My son is 4 and he has moderate-severe autism. There are ABA agents that do discreet trial teaching and others that do PRT or other forms of play based ABA. Every company wants to do thorough assessment, write up a report and get insurance approval before starting services so I can't just try out both and see what works the best for my son. Any suggestions deciding on which ABA agent to choose? Thank you very much!
I think it depends on what style they learn better from. They have done the mass trials with my daughter and had to switch to more play based as she learns better that way. It just depends.
I was just wondering what sort of things Doctors do to determine if a child is Autistic, if there are other tests they do to rule it out, how many tests are involved, how many people need to see him to make a diagnosis, and if any of it is traumatic for the child. Do they let a parent stay with the child during testing? I'd appreciate any information to help me know what to expect. Thanks! :)
Thank you all for your suggestions. I appreciate all the input. Hugs and prayers to all of you!
I'm am looking to relocate to the Nashville "area." I'm probably going to end up in Dickson Co, but don't mind to drive into Nashville or Franklin for services. I'm looking for suggestions for medical care across the board. I'll need to set my son up with a new pediatrician, OT, SLP, and hopefully ABA. Any suggestions on where to get these services would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Oddly enough the school district by God had better get you some services. You need to know 504, IDEA,ADA,ADAA. GOOGLE GEBSER LETTER
