My son was very close to potty trained from age 6-8 but regressed after some medical issues and lost the skills. 2 years ago he would sit on the toilet with the lid closed. In our current apartment, he refuses to get near the toilet and definitely not sit on it. Has anyone had any luck potty training with an older child who has been in pull ups a long time?
All I know is that a 'Distraction' (one that preferably makes them laugh) is a great motivator.
So have a Tech Device or even a simple toy as a distraction while they are in there.
Hi there all, we're looking to highlight the experiences of people on the autistic spectrum struggling with public bathrooms. i.e. the sensory overload from air dryers and automatic flushes. We think this is a really important issue that is not in the public conversation so please get in touch if you want to share an experience around this.
The hand dryers are bad but predictable. The auto flush toilet nearly derailed potty training for two of my kids. We had to go back to pullups while on vacation at a popular theme park because of… read more
He has frequent accidents at school, and the other children are making fun of him now. I'm looking for advice on potty training an autistic child effectively. It hurts to see him so sad. He doesn't understand why they pick on him.
I had no idea it was so common and I feel like I can breath a little better knowing that my baby ain’t the only one 🥺🥺

Eliminate any sensory issues in the bathroom. Urinating is fast but the longer time spent pooping might be too overwhelming. Make sure the lighting is not harsh, and there are not sounds or smells… read more

This song really helped my son.
My son has almost no interest in potty training. We finally got to the point where he no longer freaks out when we sit him on the potty, but he's not much of a communicator, so we've made no progress. He is vocal, but most of his speech is just an echo of things he hears. Just needing some guidance because I feel like a failure. Thank you.

My 4-year-old is still using diapers, he has no potty nor toilet skills. Any idea of toys likely to help an ASD child in potty/toilet awareness and training?
We potty-trained our son at 3 1/2 (when he finally started talking) and using a jar full of lollipops in the bathroom. Every time he went in the toilet, he could pick out a lollipop. Because of his… read more
