What has worked best for you to teach a non verbal kid with severe autism multiplication tables? For somebody who is unable to respond to cues or demonstrate their learning.
Thanks!

My son is 21 and attends our local community college. He's there to get his GED because his high school "decided" to give him a local diploma because they felt he "couldn't do it". Turns out..with alot of support...HE CAN do it.. I am pushing hard to get this GED for him, but Math always sets him back. He can't pass it because the kids have behavioral problems, not special needs. Big difference!! They are all HS dropouts!! Why can't there be a way for my son to get a high school diploma without… read more

We are having difficulty with multiplication… Does anyone have any suggestions on teaching the concept? She gets the adding piece of it 2+2+2+2= 8 she just doesn’t get that 2x4equals the same answer. We’ve tried flash cards but she doesn’t seem to retain the info. Any ideas would be appreciated.
My son learned how to multiply by watching School House Rock (it's available on DVD). It's very visual and with the music I think is what really helped him. We then did what ScarlettTaylor above said… read more
Any advice on how to help my very bright 7 yr old daughter that her 9yr old PDD-NOS brother doesn't me a to upset her and doesn't "always get his way"?
my Daughter is 2 years younger than her Autistic brother. It is a show and tell. It takes time but if you point out the the differences it could help. My daughter eventually started to understand.
My twin 11 year old boys are struggling in math and in particular with word problems. I have tried helping them break out the problems into steps and look for the key words to determine the calculation required but they still cannot do this on their own, even if the next problem is just like the previous problem but with a different storyline. Any tips or suggestions to help?
Khan academy?
I have a verbal autistic daughter. She's in first grade in a regular school and she is visiting it with an assistant to support her. The main problems are in mathematics. We're trying since months to progress on simple addition/subtraction. Any hints based on your experience?
I used Math Blaster which is an online computer game for math skills. It's a space mission and very fun and engaging.
My son is in kindergarten now but I am possibly thinking of homeschool for middle school. What are some good books for me to read and what is a typical day for your child?
Thanks

My son receives excellent grades despite always hearing he's slower than his peers. However, he's in middle school now and his math grades have steadily dropped to C's. His teacher says the bulk of his grade is because he's not quick enough to recite his math facts. I suspect this is because he has a methodical approach and system with everything he does. The school is evaluating whether or not he needs an IEP to allow him more time. Other than that, I'm told there's not much more they can… read more
My son learned a rap song at school for math and division facts.
I got mine through a grant. The granting agency, only services people within 100 miles of Saratoga, NY. BUt if you type in "ipad grants for autism" there are a bunch out there.
