I want so badly for my baby to join in on the festivities. I want her to believe in Santa, get excited to open presents, go trick or treating, do Easter egg hunts, etc. Those of you who have kids who participate in holidays, at what age did it start? I obviously know I can't make her as she's not neurotypical but I'm just looking for some hope cause I always envisioned being a mom that did all the fun stuff with her baby.
My son is 4 and has a lot of echolalia. This year he started reciting parts of his Christmas books that related to our holiday activities-making cookies, opening stocking, etc. So I think he's… read more
My son did like puzzles by Melissa and Doug at that age, they were a big hit.....
TBH— I want a comparison. I guess I want to stop ignoring attention seeking just because of my emotions.
My (4) year old has limited verbal skills, but she knows "Mommy" and she will yell it at the top of her lungs if she loses sight of me. If I don't respond right away she escalates. Its incredibly… read more
If there are any believers this is not the post for you I'm sorry. My PDD daughter believes santa is dead (his spirit is alive) and that I give her gifts every Christmas. She does not filter her words in front of anyone and I worry that she is going to say something when another child is around. How do I explain it to her?
My kids know that he's not real, but they hopefully are considerate enough not to spill the beans to other kids. At least I hope so.
My son loves to eat and eats quite a few things, but he will regurgitate his food and seems to be eating it a second time ( so gross I know). I don't know why he does this or even how to stop it, any ideas would be great.
I have a little friend w autism that had to proble as well. The OT thought it was sensory and used the tooth brush. The behaviorist thought it was attention seeking and put a plan together w the… read more
We were assigned a team of Intensive In Home Therapists following my 16 year old son's last hospitalization in early June. I am finding this endeavor to be vastly unsuccessful, partly due to his non-cooperation, but also due to the 'red tape' that seems to override actual services. Has anyone had positive/negative experiences with IIHS before?
I'm not sure if it's defined as intensive, but the bulk of my daughter's ABA therapy hours are in-home sessions. Naomi has responded extremely well since her in-home 7 hours per week started last… read more
All I want for Christmas is in the Playroom
Toys! Toys, toys, toys and more toys! There is nothing wrong with toys. I’m not one for spending big on Christmas. But, I don’t pass judgment on anyone who does. Some people believe it is child neglect if you don’t spend at least $1000 every season on all of your child’s requested favorites. If you don’t have that kind of money you shouldn’t even be a parent they reason. It’s all about making them happy and seeing their smile as they unwrap presents.… read more
This is a wise choice. I use to spend so muchoney on toys for my toddler but he too does not play with them correctly .
I try to notice what my son likes to do on his iPad during screen time and I try to make it a reality- so if he’s watching a video with water balloons, I get him real ones and we play water balloons… read more
I’ve heard that too much screen time causes autism. And that you can improve autism by spending more time with your child.
Screen time does NOT cause autism. Autism starts in the womb, caused by nothing other than the fact that we are all created to be who we are for a reason 😊 The world needs neurodiversity! Screen time… read more
We are currently home schooling my 14 year old grandson because 9th grade in the public school was very unacceptable to him - the school - too many people - Chromebook’s - he was regressing and that was not acceptable to us. So homeschooling has been good so far but what we are finding out is that we think his aides were doing the work for him. We started homeschooling with pre algebra and found he couldn’t do it, (even though he got the 8th math award for the highest average). We are now… read more
As far as I know NO school teaches life skills. Thats why they graduate without knowing how to use a checkbook, pay bills, count money. Some schools aren’t teaching cursive anymore or how to read an… read more
