My grandson is autistic and 18 yrs. old. He needs dental work done but is so sensitive and anxious when going to the dentist.
Whenever my son needs dental work, he has to have general anathesia at the local children's hospital. He has had it done 3 times since age 5. The first time was nerve wracking. But at last he has… read more
Please do not ignore physical health when dealing with mental health problems is message I would like noted by others and professionals - not to abuse or neglect someone with mental health issues - case appearing which refers to this but I have not included
you described my life!!! My daughter was diagnosed 3 years ago with severe autism non-verbal and unable to walk. Every day I blame myself thinking did I cause this? That’s where my mental health… read more
My grandson puts himself to sleep by pulling on a sock with his mouth to start to untangle it until all of the threds are pulled out. What can I do to change this behavior.
Also, my 13-year-old grandson is home schooled and has no friends other than family and his puppy. Is there any kind of social activities he and others can attend? Are there any churches who may have Youth Meetings where kids can meet and greet, maybe dance and sing or play card and board games>
I let Stephen tear up old magazines.
There's always a 'event' that leads up to this, and lately it's been going to His mom's.
Figure out the Why/Trigger.
My daughter recently was discharged from an inpatient facility, they put her on chlozapine because of her increased aggression. The weekly blood draws were difficult, we had them come to the house… read more
Autism, We have had to stand outside the last two funerals and now today a wedding due to running away, meltdowns, yelling
Thanks for the notes, appreciate the camaraderie in this situation
My daughter has always hit her head with both hands in every sinario (even when she first wakes up) but recently it's been getting very hard and I just don't know what to do about it, it's so hard to try distract her and try to find any triggers is seeming to be impossible, any advise would be greatly appreciated, especially since the woman who normally works with my child is off on holiday 😬
If redirecting her doesn’t work & if there is no other physical pain she is experiencing than I would seriously consider seeing a doctor who can get her a special helmet to protect her from self… read more
Our son has in school services. But it was recommended that he has in home services. We know that there is cost to the in home services & insurance usually does not cover. Would SSDI be the right avenue to go & do we need an attorney to get that? We are still in the process of getting him into counseling through the county mental health department. But we really do not know how to proceed with this. Thanks for any suggestions.
Julie - can u provide more information on the Katie Becket program?
So, I saw this add for a program for our kids that claims 100% positive results. Apparently, it is tailored to each individual child to take specific steps to improve their behavior, diets, social skills, etc. without the use of ABA. I had a one on one call with the founder last week and she claims to have a daughter on the spectrum that has learned to thrive through her program and her website touts other testimonials of people who have seen social, emotional, and verbal improvements in their… read more

It's hard for me to slow down. When my body says to rest but my mind says go-go-go. Battles that rage in my head daily.
As evident I'm a work-o-holic. From the time I get up until I go to bed, I'm working. A Full-time Job and at least two passion projects that I try to give attention to every day.
@A MyAutismTeam Member this resonates with me a LOT! I'm glad I don't ruminate like I used to.
I agree with another commenter here that you shouldn’t worry about what other parents or caregivers say. You are the most important, and knowledgeable person on your own child’s needs. I have a 5 year… read more
