Urinary Regression Or Retethered Spinal Cord In Teen?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 13 year old daughter has been potty trained since she was 7. She also had a spinal cord detethered when she was 2. Over the years she has had issues with constipation and incocntience because they didn't catch her tethered cord until she was 2 - but after a lot of medical intervention, she has been 100% toilet trained with no incontience for several years. However, lately she has been peeing in the bathtub. She has no other incidences of incontinence - just in the bathtub. Although she is… read more

If she is only urinating in the bathtub while bathing and not anywhere else, it is most likely caused by the warm bath water. I always have my son use the potty before he takes a bath because if he… read more

How Do You Know It’s Right?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is level one. She is in mainstream school and has reached all her goals. We’re working on her skills for 2nd grade now. I’m working with her on staying seated and doing her work, and we’re still working on doing her daily morning routine. She has Encopresis and has accidents overnight. She will get up and play instead of going to the bathroom in the morning. She hasn’t had daytime accidents since summer break began, and she goes to the bathroom on her own during the day. We went… read more

Eliminate any sensory issues in the bathroom. Urinating is fast but the longer time spent pooping might be too overwhelming. Make sure the lighting is not harsh, and there are not sounds or smells… read more

My Almost 7 Year Old Has Stopped Pooping In The Toilet!!!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son who is almost 7 has been going to the toilet for pee and poop for around 8 months!! And was doing fantastic, but then about a month ago he stopped pooping in the toilet and pooping anywhere he is playing. He's not painting with it but he is using drapes or toys or even paper paper to wipe with!!! We thought maybe he just doesn't want to stop playing than tonight he let out a very large fart and he looked behind scared looking for poop. :( We have tried all sorts of things to get him to go… read more

Co-sleeping Yay Or Nay
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have had my two children (6&4) sleeping with me for the last 6 months or so exclusively. Before that, my daughter with sleep issues would get up between 10pm and 3am every night and crawl in bed, or wake up no later than 4am daily, or both. For me it's less disruptive to my sleep to just have my kids in here, although privacy (didn't have much to begin with) goes out the window for the most part. So, I gave up. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks right now. Others in my household don't agree… read more

I agree that what works for your family is what is best for your family. Personally I never let my kids sleep in my bed. I have two neuro typical kids (now adults) and one teen with ASD and sleep… read more

My 6 Year Old Woke Up Crying Uncontrollably And Nothing Calmed Her Down. Anyone Experiencing This?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

She tends to do okay once she’s asleep. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night but she’s alert. She woke up today at 5am after sleeping since 9:30 last night. She was crying and throwing herself on her bed. It was like when she had a meltdown. I don’t believe she was in pain. She kept giving me the tv remote but she wasn’t happy with anything I put on the tv. Water always calms her down so we got her in the shower and after 20 minutes of playing with bubbles she calmed down and got… read more

4 Years Old Boy Humping Pillows And Gets Erection. Is This Normal?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have 4 years old under the spectrum. Since he was two years old he is humping pillows whenever the opportunity comes a home. He does not do such thing at daycare, but whenever he comes home from daycare, he eats and then start humping pillow on the bed. I saw he has erection. Is this normal?. Usually he does that for over 30 minutes. I do really need to know if anybody saw something like this in the past.
